ReadyRepair – "Uber" for Handymen

Problem

Developing web services and mobile applications similar in functionality to Uber is one of our most common projects. Non-disclosure agreements limit us from showing more than we would like. However, we can assure you that many aspire to replicate Uber's success. We were involved in creating one such application, which successfully entered the market..

Task

The client emphasized that their application should be a "1-to-1 Uber," but of course, we understood that there would be its own specifics.

About the Client

The client is from the USA and already operates a large firm specializing in "handy men" services – individuals skilled in various tasks like electrical work, plumbing, wallpapering, and general home repairs. The client has a whole team of such professionals and wanted to explore an Uber-like model.

About Service

ReadyRepair is the "Uber" for tradespeople (plumbers, electricians, etc.). If you have something broken and need help, you simply submit a request through this app. Many companies will see it and respond; the system will automatically select the best response for you and send the best specialist to your home.

Client's Requirements

  • User utility
  • Meeting customer needs
  • Map with specialist locations
  • Flawless app performance

Idea Formalization

  • Created a technical specification
  • Developed an app prototype
  • Conducted a detailed project assessment
  • All details were approved, and work began

Administrator Panel

  • Part of the mobile app for customers, part for company specialists
  • Decision made to create a small web-based admin panel for order monitoring by operators and response to non-standard situations

Automatic Ordering

In the USA, such tradespeople have long worked on an hourly wage basis. An interesting request from the client was to automatically track the specialist's time at the customer's premises.

We faced challenges with modern GPS technologies: sometimes the signal can be lost or behave inaccurately, among other issues.

We addressed all these points: as soon as the worker crosses the customer's threshold, the timer starts. Alternatively, the specialist manually records their time, which the customer confirms.

Geolocation-enabled App

The mobile app closely resembles Uber-type applications and includes an interactive map.

On the map, you can see nearby specialists and estimate their arrival time. The app generates routes and provides guidance on where and when to expect the specialist.

Mobile App Workflow:
  • The ordering process consists of the minimal number of steps similar to Uber.
  • The client opens the app.
  • Selects their address and describes the service they want to receive.
  • The app shows them 3+ nearest specialists.
  • Specialists confirm the order.
  • Waiting for the specialist and the ability to track them on the map (estimated time of arrival).
  • The specialist has arrived, and the timer starts automatically or manually.
  • The work is in progress.
  • The work is completed (with the option to add details to the order, tips, additional payment for materials, etc.).
  • The client and the specialist can leave reviews for each other.
